The REDARC Tow-Pro Elite is Australia's most popular electric trailer brake controller, and the V3 (part number EBRH-ACCV3) is the current third-generation model. What is the Tow-Pro Elite V3?
The Tow-Pro Elite V3 is a dash-mounted electric brake controller with two braking modes. Proportional mode uses an inertia sensor to apply trailer braking in proportion to how hard the vehicle is braking, ideal for highway towing. User-Controlled mode lets you set a fixed braking level, popular for off-road, sand and steep descents. It suits electric and electric-over-hydraulic trailer brakes on both 12Â V and 24Â V vehicles. The main unit hides behind the dash; all you see in the cabin is a small rotary control knob.
What's the difference between the Tow-Pro Elite V2 and V3?
Functionally, the braking modes are the same. The V3's changes are about fitment and refinement:
- Smaller, re-shaped remote head: the control knob is shallower and fits the thicker, curved dash panels found in newer utes and trucks, giving you more mounting options.
- Updated internal communication between the main unit and remote head for long-term reliability.
- Software refinements for smoother braking with heavy trailers.
If you already have a working V2, there's no pressing reason to upgrade. If you're buying new, the V3 is the one to get. It's the current model and the easier install.
What else do you need to install one?
- A wiring kit. The Elite V3 ships with a basic harness. For a plug-in install, add either a vehicle-specific kit, like our Ford Ranger/Everest wiring kit, or a universal kit: TPWKIT-013 or the extended-length TPWKIT-014.
- A switch insert (optional but tidy). These mount the control knob in a factory blank-switch slot so it looks OEM.

Do I legally need a brake controller?
In most Australian states, trailers with a GTM over 750Â kg need brakes, and over 2,000Â kg they generally must have electric (or electric-over-hydraulic) brakes operable from the driver's seat, which requires a brake controller. Check your state's current towing regulations for specifics.
